B.M.Ed. - Abilene Christian University
The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band in the School of Music at
Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. This group
nurtures the development of music educators while allowing for their
individual growth as performers in the concert arena. The Wind Ensemble has
performed regularly on tour across the state of Texas and for music
conventions throughout the United States. In total, the Wind Ensemble has
performed eight times for the Texas Music Educators Association Convention
(1973, 1976, 1980, 1986, 1990, 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008) and twice for the
Southwestern Regional Convention of the College Band Directors National
Association (2002, 2006). In addition, the Wind Ensemble performed for the
1991 National Convention of the College Band Directors National Association
in Kansas City. The Wind Ensemble often commissions new works from
outstanding composers and concerts often feature nationally known guest
conductors and soloists. The Wind Ensemble¹s membership is comprised of
both graduate and undergraduate students and includes students from many
different areas of study. Extremely competitive auditions for membership in
the Wind Ensemble are held in late August for the Fall Semester and in
November for the Spring Semester. Typically, the Wind Ensemble performs five
concerts a year on campus, along with several other performance
opportunities off-campus.
